50 anos do Centro de Reabilitação de Paralisia Cerebral Calouste Gulbenkian
The Calouste Gulbenkian Cerebral Palsy Rehabilitation Centre (CRPCCG) celebrated half a century of existence on 9 November 2020. In these 50 years many children, young people and adults with cerebral palsy, caregivers, families, technicians, physicians and other professionals have experienced some of the most important moments of their lives here. Since its foundation, the CRPCCG was a place of innovation, modernity, dedication and joy. Here great steps were taken towards the development of therapies and treatments for infant cerebral palsy, and there was always a great desire to know and promote the most advanced techniques of each era and to apply them in a careful and enlightened way. The close and individualised intervention, based on transdisciplinary teamwork, allowed cerebral palsy and other diseases of the central nervous system to be treated in a comprehensive manner, paying attention to the various areas and stages of the lives of users - health, social action, education and leisure. From Neurodevelopmental Treatment to the use of state-of-the-art technologies, the production and application of knowledge is carried out with the aim of enhancing the characteristics of each user and meeting the needs of each family. This book celebrates the harmony, work and dedication of the great teams of professionals who have worked at the CRPCCG since 1970 and those who today follow in their footsteps. The book includes contributions and testimonies from people who know and have had contact with the CRPCCG, whether as technicians, users or friends. All of them point out the high quality of the work carried out there and the competence of its professionals. Thus, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Edmundo Martinho, Sérgio Cintra, Rosário Costa Lopes, António Canau, Manuel Marques, Florinda Marques and John Coughlan are given the floor.
