Exhibition "Children of everyone... children of whom? The abandoned of the wheel of Lisbon"
The Historical Archive of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa presents the exhibition “Children of all... children of whom? The abandoned ones of the Lisbon wheel.”
An unprecedented curatorial approach invites reflection on child abandonment, foster care systems, identity, and memory, starting from the signs left with the abandoned children at the wheel: handwritten notes, small objects, images, among others.
The SCML preserves nearly ninety thousand signs of the abandoned, organized into five documentary series, with dates ranging from 1658 to 1939. This is the largest collection of documents of this kind in the world. The exhibition is part of the application of these series for the UNESCO Memory of the World Register, presented in collaboration with other national and international institutions.
Exhibition gallery hours: Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 AM to 12 PM and from 1:30 PM to 6 PM. Access is restricted during worship ceremonies at the Church of São Roque.
Free entry.
