Collection and cataloging of a sample from the vast bibliographic collection of the 15th to 18th centuries of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa. This publication presents readers with a valuable heritage, successively enriched over more than 500 years of history of the secular institution, a collection consisting of “about 3000 prints from Portuguese and foreign typography from the period designated for the Old Book (15th to 18th centuries), 1560 works from the 19th century, and more than 12,000 works published in the 20th and 21st centuries, the latter essentially dedicated to themes related to the areas of intervention of the Misericórdia de Lisboa.” This catalog, in addition to showcasing the main bibliographic treasures of the Misericórdia de Lisboa, proves to be a precious research tool for researchers and scholars. 76 species were selected, printed works organized by centuries and divided between Portuguese and foreign typography, chosen according to the criteria outlined by the director of the Historical Archive of SCML, Francisco d’Orey Manoel: “rare editions, copies of renowned authors, books that contain high-quality iconographic material, in addition to significant species from each period with information of undeniable interest.” This is a second edition of the catalog originally published in 1997, enriched with the incorporation of a series of significant prints, reproduced in color.
