Illustrated trip through the Historical Archives of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, an itinerary full of discoveries, aimed at a younger audience. Following in the footsteps of young students Ana and Quim, readers follow the protagonists' surprises and explanations about what an archive is, what it is for and how it works. In the wake of Ana and Quim, the script introduces preservation and conservation techniques, introduces the figure of the conservator-restorer and explains what bibliophagers are. Along the way, readers take a look at the centuries-old history of Misericórdia de Lisboa, on a “journey through a Service that protects and guards one of the most important and valuable assets of the cultural heritage: our Memory!” In this expedition there is not even lack of hobbies and exercises for readers to test what they have learned, namely to put on the shoes of a detective of letters. This publication is an instrument to support the actions of the Historical Archive's educational service and aims, on the one hand, to make young people aware of the importance of treating and preserving the historical and cultural heritage and, on the other hand, through direct contact with documents, to instill greater awareness of historical research methodologies.
