--
Work that narrates the history of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa between 1498 and 1998, from its foundation to contemporary times , research work signed by Professor Joaquim Veríssimo Serrão. Pursuing this long itinerary that spans five centuries, the author follows the chronological line of the day-to-day management of the ancestral institution of the capital, “whenever possible framed by contemporary testimonies, both documental and informative”. The book is organized into IX chapters, from the one entitled ‘From the Origins to the Loss of Independence’ to the one called ‘From the 25th of April to the Present’, thus embracing a period of half a millennium. In addition to these 'Five Hundred Years of History', there is also the transcription of the various Commitments, documents that guide the action of the Misericórdia de Lisboa, written in different periods and presented here in an appendix. This important publication was edited within the scope of the Commemorations of the V Centenary of the Foundation of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, marked in 1998.
