The Church of São Roque in Lisbon, built in 1566, is part of the “first generation” of Portuguese Jesuit churches.
The church we know today would be something different, however, from the one that was finished at the end of the 16th century. In this text, we propose the idea that it has undergone important changes throughout its history, especially in its interior.
