This year, we celebrated the 500th anniversary of one of the most remarkable neighborhoods in Lisbon, in history and the present. Since the first geometric plan of Lisbon was authorized in 1513, when Lopo de Athouguia agreed with the savers, Bartolomeu de Andrade and his wife, Francisca Cordovil, to divide it into lots, that this neighborhood – initially designated as Vila Nova de Andrade – became the residence of artisans, seafarers, merchants, foreigners and, also, a place of political intrigue, meetings and culture in its various manifestations.
In 2013, a number of commemorative initiatives were planned, in Bairro Alto and also in the surrounding area.
