Our Lady of Pópulo - historical reconstruction of the paintings

In the painting collection of the Museum of São Roque, we encounter two paintings representing the same theme, that is, two versions of a depiction of Our Lady with the Child, with almost identical features, although the artists who created them remain unknown.
The provenance of these images, with a clear Byzantine style, holds a fascinating story that dates back to the early days of the Society of Jesus.
