In the context of the recent commemorations of the 500th anniversary of the birth of Father Simão Rodrigues de Azevedo – who introduced the Society of Jesus in Portugal – and the evocative session of this event that took place at the Church of São Roque, on the 9th of December, jointly promoted by the Portuguese Province of the Society of Jesus, the Revista Brotéria and the Santa
Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, the work that is now presented falls within the scope of the commemorative acts in which we sought to evoke the distinguished figure of the first Portuguese Jesuit, born in Vouzela, who died at Casa Professa de São Roque in 15 July 1579, having been buried in the Church of São Roque.
