In the context of the recent celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the birth of Father Simão Rodrigues de Azevedo – the introducer of the Society of Jesus in Portugal – and the commemorative session of this anniversary that took place at the Church of São Roque on December 9th, jointly promoted by the Portuguese Province of the Society of Jesus, the Brotéria Magazine, and the Santa
Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, the work now presented fits within the scope of the commemorative acts that sought to evoke the distinguished figure of the first Portuguese Jesuit, native of Vouzela, who passed away at the Casa Professa of São Roque on July 15, 1579, and was buried in the Church of São Roque.
