Article: The martyrs of the legion of Thebes in the Church of São Roque

The tradition of conserving and venerating relics of saints dates back to the origins of Christianity, and was initially linked to the cult of martyrs.
We can say that the first reliquaries were their tombs and, later, the buildings and altars built over these tombs.
