The dissemination of new knowledge through books in the 18th century, in a playful and appealing manner, was contributed by a passionate botanist,
the Franciscan Friar Veloso. This article discusses one of those publications: the Arithmetical Game, an educational game designed to teach the four operations and some conversion tables.
