Inventory of the existing tile panels in some of the buildings of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa. This detailed research work not only reveals the valuable collection of tiles preserved by the centuries-old institution but also takes the reader on a journey through the evolution of tile art in Portugal, from its beginnings in the 16th century to contemporary times in the second half of the 20th century. In the author's words, “the journey of Portuguese tiles over time is notably exemplified through the magnificent collection integrated into the various historical buildings of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa.” The work is organized chronologically, distributed in 140 descriptive and illustrated entries, grouped according to the architectural cores in which the panels were originally placed. The tile collections of the Church of S. Roque, Palace of the Marquises of Minas, Convent of S. Pedro de Alcântara, Quinta das Flores (Palace of the Marquise of Alegrete), Convent of the English (College of S. Pedro and S. Paulo), among others, are thus analyzed.
