This volume is entirely dedicated to the theme of disability, covering various areas provided by the services of the Misericórdia de Lisboa, as well as external perspectives from those who research the subject.
From outside the institution, we receive two articles from two academics: the first dedicated to the transition to adulthood, a particularly important moment in which the issue of collaboration between entities and professionals deserves special attention; the second on the paradigm of active citizenship and the transformation of organizations, considering the times of change we are living through.
Always with the intention of sharing the best practices resulting from the intervention of SCML, three other articles are presented that, while not exhausting all the actions developed, provide a broader view of what is done internally, day after day. The assessment of the quality of life of people with intellectual and developmental difficulties, carried out by the Disability Support Unit; early intervention in visual impairment; and preparation for the full autonomy of young people with disabilities. These are the three remaining topics addressed with the rigor and knowledge that comes from the extensive experience of the technicians at Santa Casa.
