This volume is entirely dedicated to the theme of disability, covering various areas provided by the services of Misericórdia de Lisboa, as well as external perspectives from those conducting research on the subject.

From outside the institution, we receive two articles from two academics: the first dedicated to the transition to adult life, a particularly important moment in which the issue of collaboration between entities and technicians deserves special attention; the second about the paradigm of active citizenship and the transformation of organizations, considering the times of change we are living in.

Always with the intention of sharing the best practices resulting from the intervention of SCML, three other articles are presented which, without exhausting all the actions developed, provide a broad view of what is done internally day by day. The assessment of the quality of life of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, carried out by the Disability Support Unit; early intervention in visual impairment; and preparation for the full autonomy of young people with disabilities. These are the three remaining topics addressed with the rigor and knowledge that come from the extensive experience of the Santa Casa technicians.
