Exhaustive bibliographic collection and meticulous cataloging of the documentary and bibliographic holdings from the 15th and 16th centuries of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa. Identification and cataloging of the bibliographic heritage of the secular institution in the capital, consisting of a total of 138 printed works, originating from the collections of the Misericórdia de Lisboa, the Convent of S. Pedro de Alcântara, and the grand library of the Marquês de Alegrete Palace, in Charneca do Lumiar. This bibliographic inventory includes various books and rare editions that came into the possession of the Santa Casa through inheritances, legacies, and donations, but also thanks to acquisitions and incorporations of dispersed works. Júlio Caio Velloso presents to the reader the “rich and substantial collection of prints from Portuguese and foreign typography” that make up the collection of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, copies that “represent true jewels from the best moments of Renaissance printing.” This is a second edition, revised and expanded, enriched with the incorporation of new indexes and a series of significant prints, reproduced in color.
