In the middle of Avenida Almirante Reis, in the center of the capital, the once Economic Kitchen No. 2, built in the late 19th century, collapses under the weight of the Modern Theater, which had also collapsed. It is the building that replaces it, designed by Lino de Carvalho and completed in 1914, which will design the contours of the Economic Kitchen of the Angels, continuing to provide affordable meals to the needy population, being transferred to the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa in 1928 - together with with the other budget kitchens – but still standing and in full operation to this day, under the name of Centro de Apoio Social dos Anjos (CASA). In these pages, the history of this historic equipment is unraveled - whose valences are not limited to the cafeteria, but allow the temporary reception of people in the facilities and offer activities in the occupational workshop - as well as the social diagnosis of the population to whom it is addressed, its action strategy and intervention methodology. This book is part of the Sebentas Collection of Social Action, an editorial line dedicated to sharing knowledge acquired and consolidated through practice, in the awareness, however, that this knowledge is always under permanent construction and improvement.
