Conservação Preventiva e Preservação das Obras de Arte: Condições-Ambiente e Espaços Museológicos em Portugal

The issues of preventive conservation and preservation of works of art, with a special focus on environmental conditions and museum spaces in Portugal, are the subject of the doctoral dissertation by Luís Efrem Elias Casanovas, author with a vast work published around the preventive conservation. With a preface signed by the historian José-Augusto França, this publication is based on the premise that the conservation of collections is a cultural option and a priority objective of museological practice. As the author describes, “with the aim of clarifying the problem of environmental conditions in Portugal, we started our journey, trying to understand what happened from the beginnings of conservation until today, the origin of the problems, the reasons for the past and the present. ”. In this way, the reader is guided through the path covered over time, from preventive conservation to the preservation of the collections, passing through the analysis of the constraints imposed by the environmental conditions, by the museum buildings and by the outdoor climate, ending with the in-depth study of the Portuguese case. .
