Look at the history and artistic collection of the Convent of São Pedro de Alcântara, in the Lisbon Bairro Alto, an imposing building of religious architecture that is part of the heritage of the Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Lisboa. The authors present this monumental 'ex-voto' of the Restoration War, built in 1680 at the initiative of D. António Luís de Menezes, Marquis of Marialva and Count of Cantanhede, in fulfillment of a vow made during the Battle of Montes Claros. The property would be inhabited by the Arrábida monks until 1833, on the eve of the extinction of religious orders in Portugal, at which point the architectural complex was handed over, along with all its assets, to the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa. The secular institution established the Recolhimento das Órfãs in the building, a work supported by various legacies. This historical and artistic itinerary also includes articles about the Chapel of the Lencastres, commissioned in the late 1600s for the family worship of Cardinal D. Veríssimo de Lencastre, about the unique tile collection of the property - artifacts dated from the mid-18th century to the 20th century - not forgetting a review of the Institute of S. Pedro de Alcântara, an educational work of notable social reach and recognized prestige overseen by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa.
