This Catalog refers to the documents of the series designated “Decrees, Notices, and Orders,” which is part of one of the largest sets of documents in which the documentation produced and accumulated by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa is structured (in this case, in the section “Constitution, Organization, and Regulation”). The “Decrees, Notices, and Orders” reflect not only the administrative relations established between the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa and the central administration of the Crown throughout the Ancien Régime but also the major areas of intervention of the institution and its lines of action, particularly in terms of assistance to exposed children, poor prisoners, orphans, and other needy individuals in the city of Lisbon.
