On the Other Side: Intergenerations Program | Intersituações – for the knowledge of homeless people in Lisbon
Given the lack of rigorous data about homeless people in Lisbon, it became relevant and urgent to carry out a survey that would allow the real identification of this entire population. Furthermore, the fact that this phenomenon is not static, that it is constantly changing, made the previous reference data obsolete. In this way, the Intergerações | Intersituations of Social Exclusion and Vulnerability, from Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa (SCML), which took place between March and December 2013. The program team sought answers to several questions. Who are these people and how many are those who live on the street? Where do they live and why? What are your support networks? What are your sources of income? What are your health problems? What are your expectations for the future? Your dreams and goals?
In this book, the results of the exhaustive survey carried out by the Intergerações team are presented and interpreted, as well as those of the two counts carried out, in 2013 and 2015, by several teams that traveled simultaneously throughout the city of Lisbon. It also narrates the preparation and development of the work and gives voice to some homeless people, who leave their testimony here in the first person.
