Garcia Fernandes: Um pintor do renascimento, eleitor da misericórdia de Lisboa
Study and homage to the 16th century painter Garcia Fernandes, Brother and Mesário da Misericórdia de Lisboa, published as part of the Commemorations of the 5th Centenary of the Santa Casa in the capital. A publication carried out following the temporary exhibition exclusively dedicated to the work of Garcia Fernandes, organized by the Museu de S. Roque in 1998. This exhibition brought together, for the first time, a significant set of works by the author, a valuable testimony to the entry of the Renaissance in Portuguese painting, pieces not only from the collection of the secular institution, but also from important Portuguese museums, foundations and private collections. The book reveals an exemplary personality of the artistic culture of the time, regular painter of the Brotherhood of S. Roque between 1530 and 1550, author of the primitive altarpiece of the church that functioned as the first seat of this Institution, as well as the famous painting commonly known as ' Marriage of D. Manuel'. An edition of Misericórdia de Lisboa sponsored by the National Commission for the Commemorations of Portuguese Discoveries.
