Orthopedic Hospital of Sant'Ana. Greetings from the Future. Unlikely Heroes
Panoramic look at the past and present of the Hospital Ortopédico de Sant’Ana (HOSA), in Parede, an establishment of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, created as a sanatorium more than a century ago. Belonging to Misericórdia by virtue of the legacy of the benefactor Claudina Chamiço, the chronicle of this establishment demands a return to the past, to the time when tuberculosis did justice to the nickname of the white plague. In this book, the reader is taken to witness the construction of a pioneering project from the first stone. Traveling to a space of Beauty and Good that was never limited to being a mere healing factory and had the ability to celebrate life in the scenario of illness. And to identify the sum of knowledge and experiences that confuse the HOSA narrative with that of the national Orthopedics. Because the life of this establishment is also made of the daily life of the present, Ana Gomes tells the story of Tiago Nunes, a young cerebral palsy patient admitted to HOSA for a surgical intervention, protagonist of the report that reports the day to day of a hospital that does not sleep . This is the third issue of the “Cadernos Solidários SCML” collection, an editorial series that showcases the work developed by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa in its different areas of intervention.
