Itinerary of the Church of São Roque of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, a unique monument in the context of Portuguese art due to its historical value and artistic richness. This guide provides visitors with an updated view of the Jesuit temple, conceived in light of the most recent historical-scientific research and the conservation and restoration campaigns promoted by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa. This publication introduces one of the most significant monuments of Portuguese heritage, built at the end of the 16th century under the action of the Society of Jesus. According to Teresa Morna, director of the Museum of São Roque, “the interior of this Jesuit temple encompasses artistic treasures that include its harmonious decoration, including gilded woodwork, polychrome marbles, tile work, mosaic compositions, painting, sculpture, and reliquaries.” The itinerary guides the visitor through the space and history of the Church of São Roque, following a route oriented from the Chapel of São Roque, passing through the construction of the temple, to the ornamentation, Chapels and Altars, and Sacristy of the Church of São Roque.
