Collection of articles and studies in the field of Linguistics authored by Delmira Maçãs, benefactor of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa. In this volume of the collection titled Miscellany, Delmira Maçãs shares with readers a set of essays in which she focuses on particular realities of the universe of language, speech, and communication. Among these are studies on the following themes: the formation of student slang, the relationships between the body and character in popular Portuguese language, the suffix – inho attached to adjectives in familiar Portuguese language, irony and depreciation in the Portuguese language (regarding the stylistic work of irony), or the essay on language and generations, among other texts. These writings reveal the research and linguistic analysis facet of the benefactor of the Misericórdia de Lisboa, a complex and contradictory personality who found in the white of the pages her most stimulating confidant. It was on paper that she meticulously recorded the daily life, but also the fruit of her work as a researcher in the field of Linguistics, profound reflections scattered in numerous texts that she methodically preserved throughout her life. The books of Delmira Maçãs were published by the Santa Casa in 2009, in fulfillment of the testamentary charge stipulated by the benefactor to the Misericórdia de Lisboa, the institution she chose as her heir: the publication of her personal writings, of an autobiographical nature, but also of a religious and literary character. This is a set of 16 volumes, organized into three collections: Biographical Notes – Steps to Death, Dialogue with the Gospels, and Miscellany.
