Over three years, the Social Service team of the Centro de Medicina de Reabilitação de Alcoitão carried out an investigation with the aim of understanding how families reorganize themselves after the appearance of a disability, whether congenital or acquired. This observation focused on the study of 46 families with a member with a disability, aged between zero and 65 years of age, analyzing various dimensions of the family and social sphere: family structure, attitudes towards disability, organization of the domestic daily life, reconciling professional activity with family life, leisure, social support networks and future expectations.
