Workshop on Public Policies on Longevity, held on July 13, 14 and 15, 2020

The increase in longevity should be recognised and understood as one of the main achievements of the 20th century, requiring different levels of approaches and adaptations in the field of public policies, considering the multidisciplinarity that is intended to convene and the interdisciplinarity to be achieved in the responses, opportunities and multidimensional challenges. The transversality of longevity in contemporary societies is one of the most striking features of the contributions of the speakers of the « Public Policies on Longevity Workshop, with impacts on various dimensions of the life cycle, such as family, employment, income, protection systems, qualifications and skills, science, among others. The participation of various social partners, stakeholders and experts allowed a broad explanation for the understanding and interpretation of the national reality, identifying expectations and current and future constraints, to effectively respond to the needs of people in a real, systematic and holistic way. It was an important moment of collaborative expression, deepening, updating and sedimentation of knowledge and reflections favouring a new framework of guidelines and responses capable of meeting the demands associated with longevity, in a logic of complementarity and commitment to current and future trends, integrating them considering the specificities of people and the Portuguese reality.
