PRODAC: Community under construction

The territory where the Prodac neighborhood now stands, in Marvila, holds a past filled with history, from a distant suburb of the capital to the scene of a thriving industrialization that grew significantly from the late 1800s. In the second half of the 20th century, a neighborhood with a peculiar biography was born here: the Prodac neighborhood, a pioneering self-construction experience in Lisbon. Under the rows of white houses, the neighborhood continues to be a ground for intervention carried out by numerous actors, from both within and outside the borders of the territory, demonstrating how the uniqueness of that place arouses the interest and involvement of many. In the gestures of yesterday, the practices of today, and the desires of tomorrow, the Prodac community showcases associativism as an integral part of its long-standing identity and practices the drive for participation as a rooted habit.
