PRODAC: Community under construction

The territory where the Prodac district stands today, in Marvila, has a past full of history, from the distant outskirts of the capital to the scene of a thriving industrialization that grew from the end of the 1800s onwards. In the second half of the 20th century, a neighborhood with a peculiar biography was born here: the Prodac neighborhood, a pioneering self-construction experience in Lisbon. Under the rows of white houses, the neighborhood continues to be a field of intervention carried out by numerous actors, from inside and outside the borders of the territory, demonstrating how the uniqueness of that place arouses the interest and involvement of many. In yesterday's gestures, in today's practices and in tomorrow's desires, the Prodac community shows associativism as an integral part of its tenth identity and practices the impulse of participation as an ingrained habit.
