Catalog of the Baroque lace collection of the Capela de São João Baptista, a valuable 18th century collection belonging to the collection of the São Roque Museum of Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Lisbon. Maria Filomena Brito guides readers through the history of the art of lace making, describing the basic technologies and models existing in Europe over time, passing through the times of the triumph of bobbin lace and the success of the Flemish industry and also through the period gold of baroque lace. The author narrates the episode of the sumptuous commission of the Capela de São João Baptista by D. João V, in the mid-18th century, a work built in Rome and later brought to the Church of São Roque, in Lisbon. The catalog contains 76 inventory cards of Baroque lace pieces that make up the collection of the Capela de S. João Baptista, one of the most important from the late Baroque period, a unique artistic collection. This publication was published within the scope of the Commemorations of the V Centenary of the Foundation of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, marked in 1998.
