Saint Matthew

Meditation on the biblical texts of the Gospel according to Saint Matthew, reflection authored by Delmira Maçãs, benefactor of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, comments written in the form of dialogue with the sacred text. In this volume of the collection titled Dialogues with the Gospels, Delmira Maçãs shares with readers a set of reflections that resulted from reading the longest of the four canonical Gospels, with the aim that these may help them "to also draw inspiration from the Holy Scripture," as she clarifies in the preliminary note to this work. These writings reveal Delmira Maçãs, a complex and contradictory personality who found in the blank pages her most stimulating confidant. It was on paper that she meticulously recorded the daily register of life, but also religious meditations, profound reflections scattered in numerous texts that she methodically preserved throughout her life. The books of Delmira Maçãs were published by the Santa Casa in 2009, in fulfillment of the testamentary charge stipulated by the benefactor to the Misericórdia de Lisboa, the institution she chose as her heir: the publication of her personal writings, of an autobiographical nature, but also of a religious and literary character. This is a set of 16 volumes, organized into three collections: Biographical Notes – Steps to Death, Dialogue with the Gospels, and Miscellany.
