The Health Closer Program, conceived and executed by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, has taken on the mission of measuring the pulse of healthcare provided to all citizens in the metropolitan area of Lisbon, especially those who are most disadvantaged and have fewer resources to travel to hospitals and health centers. A work of prevention and awareness of the population, done hand in hand with the community, through screenings carried out by mobile health units that reached out to users. This book, two years after the creation of the program, showcases the work of the teams from Health Closer, who went into the field and conducted free screenings for seven chronic diseases – respiratory diseases, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, osteoporosis, skin cancer, stroke – aiming to help the population in their prevention. Various specialists also write about the situation of these pathologies in Portugal. A contribution to the diagnosis of the health of the population of Lisbon.
