In light of this reality, the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa has sought to support the elderly population of the city, particularly exposed to factors of social exclusion and loneliness, through Homes, Residences, Day Centers, Social Gathering Centers, and Home Support. Meanwhile, since January 2004, Santa Casa has been conducting studies in the field of aging and home support, in order to substantiate, based on reliable indicators and prospective analysis, the decision regarding its (re)positioning in these areas.

In this context, the General Secretariat, through the Documentation Center, is holding a bibliographic exhibition on the theme Being Elderly - New Challenges, as part of the Commemorations of the 506th Anniversary of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, which will be on display until October 31, 2004.
