Chronicle of the life and legacy of Sidónia Ribeiro, benefactor of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa. Born in 1920 in the country's capital, Sidónia dos Santos Ribeiro's history is punctuated by contradictions and absences that deepen the mystery surrounding her biography. "The passage of time irremediably obliterated the life narrative of the benefactress of the secular institution of the capital. However, from the shadow of the facts one can clearly distinguish the contours of an unusual figure, with rare ability to manage a large heritage that had the ability to multiply, passionate about the trips that took her to know the four corners of the world".
It was in 2001, when she was already 81 years old, that she went to the facilities of Misericórdia de Lisboa, where she revealed that it was her last wish to establish the Santa Casa as the universal heir of her goods. "Without explanations or hesitations, the benefactor begins the process of executing a benevolence that continues to this day".
This book is the eighth volume of the Colecção Meméritos SCML, an editorial series that makes known the benefactors of the secular institution, men and women who, over more than 500 years, have contributed to the mission of good causes of the Holy House through its legacies, inheritances and donations.
