Chronicle of the life and legacy of Sidónia Ribeiro, benefactor of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa. Born in 1920 in the capital of the country, the story of Sidónia dos Santos Ribeiro is marked by contradictions and absences that deepen the mystery surrounding her biography. "The passage of time has irreparably obliterated the life narrative of the benefactor of the secular institution of the capital. However, from the shadow of the facts, the outlines of an unusual figure emerge clearly, with a rare ability to manage a substantial heritage that she had the skill to multiply, passionate about the travels that took her to know the four corners of the world."
It is in 2001, when she was already 81 years old, that she goes to the facilities of the Misericórdia de Lisboa, where she reveals that her final wish is to establish the Santa Casa as the universal heir of her assets. "Without explanations or hesitations, the benefactor thus begins the process of executing a benefaction that pulses to this day."
The present book is the eighth volume of the Beneméritos SCML Collection, an editorial series that introduces the benefactors of the secular institution, men and women who, over more than 500 years, have contributed to the mission of good causes of the Santa Casa through their legacies, inheritances, and donations.
