Catalog of the exhibition "Visitation. The Archive: memory and promise", which was installed between the 10th of July and the 2nd of November 2014, in the new exhibition gallery of the São Roque Museum, in Lisbon. An initiative of the Historical Archives and the Directorate of Culture of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, it marked the inauguration of that space and sought, in the words of the institution's director of Culture, Maria Margarida Montenegro, to promote "the meeting between its secular history and the art of contemporary". Curated by Paulo Pires do Vale and with the collaboration of several creators and artists, including photographer Daniel Blaufuks, filmmaker Pedro Costa, composer João Madureira or designer Filipe Alarcão, the exhibition explored the concept of "visitation". transversally, through the eyes of different arts. The catalog reflects this experience, traveling through the pieces that document the past of Santa Casa - such as the signs of children from Roda dos Expostos and delivered to the care of Misericórdia or photographs related to the institution's work in health or social action, among others - and open a window to the future, keeping the memory alive but submitting it to the critical gaze of contemporary art. This tome contains four volumes with texts and an extensive visual reproduction of the pieces in the exhibition and also includes a CD with the original composition by João Madureira, dedicated to the "Visitation".
