Rhyme and Metric
Poetry collection by Delmira Maçãs, a benefactor of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, texts that permeate deep feelings, born of the peculiar perception she had of the world and of herself. “Oh, my eyes, so big with astonishment, / that close on the world”, writes the author. In this volume of the collection entitled Miscelânea, Delmira Maçãs shares with readers a set of poetic texts that translate a whirlwind of sensibilities, hopes and anxieties. “Lost, / forgotten / at a point / in the world, / so big / and so small, / the world, / so small / me, lost, / hidden / me”, concludes Delmira Maçãs. These writings of poetry reveal the benefactor of Misericórdia de Lisboa, a complex and contradictory personality who found her most stimulating confidant in the white of the pages. It was on paper that she meticulously deposited the daily record of life, as well as the anguish felt from dawn to the sunset of existence, deep reflection dispersed in countless texts that she methodically kept throughout her life. Delmira Maçãs' books were published by Santa Casa in 2009, in fulfillment of the testamentary mandate stipulated by the benefactor to the Misericórdia de Lisboa, an institution she chose as her heir: the publication of her personal writings, of an autobiographical nature, but also of a religious and literary. It is a set of 16 volumes, organized into three collections: Biographical Notes – Steps to Death, Dialogue with the Gospels and Miscellaneous.
